The 13^th edition of The International Meeting on Boron Chemistry (IMEBORON) was held in Platja d’Aro (Girona). The Organizing Committee is pleased to state that more than 300 scientists and accompanying people from 27 countries have taken part at this year’s IMEBORON congress. (more…)

The Organizing Committee was pleased that around 140 scientists and accompanying persons were present at the first EUROBORON meeting held in Platja d’Aro (Girona) during 20-24th September 1997. All sessions of the conference took place in the Hotel Mar Condal.

We have presented our latest results at the 2nd European Conference on Metal Organic Frameworks and Porous Polymers. We have contributed to three presentations:

1. Novel Carborane-based Linkers for MOFs: From high hydrophobicity to Guest-Framework dependent Mechanical Properties
2. New carborane based dipyridyl linkers for coordination polymers/metal organic frameworks
3. Stable Porous Coordination Polymers Assembled by V-shape Carborane Based Dicarboxylic Ligands

Such as Transformers, the living robotic beings that have the ability to change their bodies at will, rearranging their parts from a humanoid robotic mode into an alternate form, generally a car, truck or a weapon; scientists have now developed novel 3D nano-porous materials that go through conformational changes and transform into a 2D non-porous structure as a result of an external stimuli, and then can shift to the original 3D nano-porous structure when the stimuli is reversed.

Minimalist Biostructures Designed to Create Nanomaterials

Inspired by a type of natural assembly seen in amyloid fibres, researchers from the IBB-UAB fabricate 4 molecules of only 7 amino acids with the ability to self-assemble and rapidly and inexpensively form nanomaterials for biomedical and nanotechnological purposes.

Prof. Francesc Teixidor and Prof. Clara Viñas presented their latter results at the 6º Simposio Latinoamericano de Química de Coordinación y Organometálica (SILQCOM6), cellebrated in Iguazu, Misiones, Argentina. 6-11th August 2017.

– Plenary lecture: “Boron Clusters, 3-D Aromatic Inorganic Species that Contribute Innovative Features to Chemistry”. Francesc Teixidor.

– Invited lecture: “Boron clusters as a new class of purely inorganic compounds for multifunctional materials”.

Prof. Clara Viñas presented her latter results at the International Conference On Phosphorus, Boron and Silicon – PBSi, cellebrated on 3-7th July 2017 in Paris.

– Plenary lecture: “Merging Boron clusters with P and Si aiming to Nanomaterials for Catalysis, Electronics and Medicine”.

– Workshop on SIPs: “Icosahedral boron clusters: a perfect tool for the enhancement of polymer features” Clara Viñas.

Prof. Francesc Teixidor participated at the Workshop on Boron-Chemistry Micro-Forum Held in Nanjing University, China. 17th July, 2017.

On friday 8th september, we invited our daughters, sons, and relatives, between the ages of 1 and 18 to spend one morning with us. More than 80 girls and boys participated in interactive learning activities, which will inspire them and introduce them to Materials Science research. In our group, we did some liquid nitrogen experiments.

Prof. Francesc Teixidor and Drs Rosario Núñez and José Giner presented their latter results at the 16th Internacional Meeting on Boron Chemistry, cellebrated on 9-13th July at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

• Prof Teixidor gave a Plenary Lecture entitled “Boron Clusters, Not Just One Chemistry But Also One Opportunity”.
• Dr Núnez gave an oral presentation entitled “Photoluminescence of Icosahedral Carborane, Borane and Metallacarborane-Based Derivatives”.
• Dr Giner gave an oral presentation entitled “Dipyridine Carborane Linkers for Metal-Organic-Frameworks: Enhanced Water Stability and Switchable Surface Hydrophobicity-Hydrophilicity “.

LMI’s group prepare electrochromic devices to be used in smart windows. In this video prussian blue is used as electrochromic layer, supported in a Nanostructured ITO home made in collaboration with Dr. Manuel Lopez de Miguel from the UB.
